Hey all, I know I already said this today-- but happy Friday! Today was the first official  day of my districts work calendar. We all went to convocation (which is where we all get super hyped about teaching all our students this year) then went back to our campus to get to know our new teachers and how our campus will run this year. That being said, I want to give a shout out to all you new teachers ! Welcome to your career! I have to tell you, I originally wanted to teach because I had been waiting tables since I was 16 (I started teaching at 24) and I just thought "I NEED STEADY MONEYYY AND STEADY HOURS"! With a video production major (and not willing to relocate because I'm a total momma's girl), I decided to turn to teaching. Hey all! First of all, happy Friday! Let me start by thanking the guys over at " The Football Outcasts " once again for nominating me for this Blogger Recognition Award! I think this is a GREAT way to have all of us bloggers go out and see what everyone else is writing about. I noticed whenever I went back to check the comments and begin sorting through peoples blogs that Admin had disabled comments for my post requesting for you to comment blog links (no big deal). HOWEVER, that being said.. I only had 14 people leave their blog links. So, I know I said I would recognize 10 bloggers but I went through all of them and decided I am only going to recognize 5. After all, this IS supposed to be an award of some type and I really didn't want to just recognize you all (although, I have to tell you all of your blogs were like 50 THOUSAND times prettier and put together than mine). Happy Monday! I have been participating in a teacher leadership study with some other teachers in my district this summer. The study was lead by our  Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum , Dr. Anita Hebert! She is fabulous and though I did not get a chance to talk with her personally, I find her very inspiring. It was very informal and an easy going discussion! I felt very compelled to discuss some of the points we hit today at our session as we finished discussing all of our books. We read three books throughout the course of the summer, the first being Grit by Angela Duckworth, Disrupting Thinking by Kylene Beers & Robert Probst, and Leading Change In Your School by Douglas Reeves. (I won't be discussing the last one, as I am actually still finishing it!) In regards to the first book, Grit,  s uch  a great read. Free stuff?! I know what you're thinking, teachers don't get things for free. WRONG! Don't forget to utilize the wonderful world of Teachers Pay Teachers as well as Pinterest (duh). You can find lots of cool things on there for free! And if it isn't free... it's like $5 (your students are worth it.. trust me). However, this post wasn't inspired from TPT. It was inspired from the fact that every year my principal gets our campus new shirts to wear to convocation and today I got mine! It's probably my favorite part of the start of inservice because: A) there are always the teachers who loathe that we all dress up like some sort of day camp, and I love watching them in pain (oops, that's mean. But I do). B) My outfit is already made for the day, throw on some cute pants and shoes and you are good to go!
