Disrupting Thinking In Your Classroom

Happy Monday! I have been participating in a teacher leadership study with some other teachers in my district this summer. The study was lead by our  Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum , Dr. Anita Hebert! She is fabulous and though I did not get a chance to talk with her personally, I find her very inspiring. It was very informal and an easy going discussion! I felt very compelled to discuss some of the points we hit today at our session as we finished discussing all of our books. We read three books throughout the course of the summer, the first being Grit by Angela Duckworth, Disrupting Thinking by Kylene Beers & Robert Probst, and Leading Change In Your School by Douglas Reeves. (I won't be discussing the last one, as I am actually still finishing it!) In regards to the first book, Grit,  s uch  a great read. I recommend it for anyone looking to build passion and perseverance (or "grit" as she calls it) in your professional or personal life. There i...

Blogger Recognition Award--- passing it along!

Hey all! First of all, happy Friday! Let me start by thanking the guys over at " The Football Outcasts " once again for nominating me for this Blogger Recognition Award! I think this is a GREAT way to have all of us bloggers go out and see what everyone else is writing about. I noticed whenever I went back to check the comments and begin sorting through peoples blogs that Admin had disabled comments for my post requesting for you to comment blog links (no big deal). HOWEVER, that being said.. I only had 14 people leave their blog links. So, I know I said I would recognize 10 bloggers but I went through all of them and decided I am only going to recognize 5. After all, this IS supposed to be an award of some type and I really didn't want to just recognize you all (although, I have to tell you all of your blogs were like 50 THOUSAND times prettier and put together than mine). The best part about this award is it is going to be different for every single  person ...

Singing the Monday Blues

Ah, Monday. The first day to the start of the week and for most, the least favorite day of the week. However, not so for me today! I have got my hands full with my niece and nephew, who are just about the cutest things I have ever seen. So today marks 2 weeks before I go back to school, and even sooner before I start attending some good ol' Professional Development. I have been thinking a lot about my classroom management and things about it that must change and things about it that I'll keep. Here is something I have realized in my past two years of teaching: Kids need procedures and kids need consistency . Let me tell you, I kind of suck at both. I am very free spirited and as such my classroom reflects this... it's messy. Which is ironic! Because I would not describe myself as a messy person (even if there are 400 things going on in my brain at one time). I plan on adjusting both of these things accordingly next year. However, one thing I absolutely  love, and i...
