About Me

My sweet family.

Hey guys! Welcome :)

I am so glad that you have taken the time to visit my blog. I have been a public school educator for 10 years now. My area of focus is reading comprehension and Reading Language Arts. I love helping teachers find quick, purposeful activities to assess their students understanding! I believe tasks in the classroom should be fun, fast, and hands-on for the student.

In my Teachers Pay Teachers store, you can find task cards for multiple learning standards, complete with directions and answer keys. I look forward to helping with your teaching endeavors!

I graduated from the University of Houston in 2014 and then from Lamar University with a Master's in Education in 2018! My first job teaching was as a technology applications teacher. I was then approached by my principal and asked if I'd like to move to language arts and let me tell you, it's the best thing that has ever happened. I absolutely LOVE reading and helping my kids become lifelong readers.

Currently, I act as an interventionist at my school! I love helping kids and teachers reach their full potential!

When I am not reading blogs or books for professional growth, you can find me reading for pleasure. I am an AVID reader and love spreading that joy to my students. I hope they catch on because a good book is infectious.

I hope you enjoy reading about my little area of the world!

Disrupting Thinking In Your Classroom

Happy Monday! I have been participating in a teacher leadership study with some other teachers in my district this summer. The study was lead by our  Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum , Dr. Anita Hebert! She is fabulous and though I did not get a chance to talk with her personally, I find her very inspiring. It was very informal and an easy going discussion! I felt very compelled to discuss some of the points we hit today at our session as we finished discussing all of our books. We read three books throughout the course of the summer, the first being Grit by Angela Duckworth, Disrupting Thinking by Kylene Beers & Robert Probst, and Leading Change In Your School by Douglas Reeves. (I won't be discussing the last one, as I am actually still finishing it!) In regards to the first book, Grit,  s uch  a great read. I recommend it for anyone looking to build passion and perseverance (or "grit" as she calls it) in your professional or personal life. There i...

Freebie Friday- advice and tools for your classroom management this year

Hey all, I know I already said this today-- but happy Friday! Today was the first official  day of my districts work calendar. We all went to convocation (which is where we all get super hyped about teaching all our students this year) then went back to our campus to get to know our new teachers and how our campus will run this year. That being said, I want to give a shout out to all you new teachers ! Welcome to your career! I have to tell you, I originally wanted to teach because I had been waiting tables since I was 16 (I started teaching at 24) and I just thought "I NEED STEADY MONEYYY AND STEADY HOURS"! With a video production major (and not willing to relocate because I'm a total momma's girl), I decided to turn to teaching. My brother is a teacher as is my sister in law and I have always enjoyed  children. So, off to alternative certification I went. Anyway.. blah, blah, blah. I substituted and then BAM I landed my first gig. The point of the story i...
